OLIVE GROVES

Half of our olive groves were planted more than two centuries ago, while the remaining part was planted between 1930 and 1935.

In total we harvest olives from more than 150,000 trees, which in addition to our own obtain through commercial agreements in the town of Villaconejos and the surrounding areas, 80% of which are more than 100 years old and 97% of which are of the Cornicabra variety. These land are characterized by the relatively low production volumes compared to other regions in the Iberian Peninsula, but which permits us however to obtain an exceptional and consistent quality for the entire production.

We act as advisers to our external providers and require of them strict quality controls related to the growing, harvest, and transportation to our facilities.

  
         
 
 
 
   

   
         
   

The Cornicabra variety, also know as Cornezuelo takes its name from the characteristic shape of the fruit. The olive groves in this region tend to be small in size and family-managed using traditional methods.

This specific variety produces a medium-sized tree with pendulum-shaped bunches of branches and with some areas having more foliage than others. The fruit is medium to large in size and weighs between 3.0 and 3.5 grams. It has a slightly long pendulum shape. Its colour evolves from light green to cream, then violet, and finally black at the moment of maximum maturity. Its fat yield is good at more than 22%.
